The John Abernathy Smith Heritage Center has church kits to help in preserving and sharing the history of your church. The Tennessee Conference Archives has been awarded a grant from the Tennessee State Library and Archives to make church history kits available to our churches. Each kit is comprised of archival quality materials that will help preserve paper records and photographs.
Included in an archival file box are a guidebook for church historians, Cross and Flame: Two Centuries of United Methodist History in Middle Tennessee by John Abernathy Smith; archival folders, photograph sleeves, marking pencils, gloves and clips; as well as list of the clergy who have served your congregation, and other historical information they have on hand about your church.
The Conference Archives can also assist you with additional research help and document scanning. This is particularly helpful if congregation members have old photographs or documents related to your church history that they want to keep in their families. They have a few Family History kits if you have families whose history is interwoven with your church’s story. A few archival pew bible storage boxes are available as well.
While the archival kits are available to any church, the emphasis is with small membership churches. Quantities are limited so contact them soon.
