July 11-14, 2019 in Nashville, TN
Grassroots religious environmental activists and professionals will travel from all across the United States to Scarritt Bennett Center in Nashville, TN, for training, networking and fellowship on July 11-14, 2019 for the United Methodist Church’s 12th Annual Creation Care Summit.
The Creation Care Summit is an annual United Methodist event centered on care for the Earth and on environmental justice. Attendees have explored the marriage of faith and environmental care.
The 2019 Creation CareSummit will be hosted by the Creation Care Ministry (Stewards of God’s Earth) of the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church.
The theme for the event “Building a Movement” will be championed by keynote speaker, Heather McTeer Toney, National Field Director with Moms Clean Air Force.
The event will include plenary sessions, small-group workshops, worship and music. Participants will:
- Dream boldly of ways everyone can play a key role in healing the planet
- Strategize how to build a strong movement for creation care and environmental justice especially within The United Methodist Church
- Learn effective practices for this work
- Gain strength and inspiration through worship
- Connect with interfaith partners in this work
Keynote speaker Heather McTeer Toney served in the Obama Administration as a Regional Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency. She made history in 2004 as the first African American, first female, and youngest person to serve as the mayor of Greenville, Mississippi.
Saturday sessions, which feature Toney’s presentation, are open to the public, however, registration is required.
