MARTIN METHODIST COLLEGE
The Martin Methodist College (MMC) Board of Trustees announces the search for the college’s 31st president, an appointment to become effective on or about July 1, 2017. As Martin Methodist moves into its next chapter of accomplishments, the college community is eager to welcome a president who will serve as a catalyst for strategic change that will be consistent with institutional mission and will serve the educational needs of future generations of students.
Martin Methodist seeks a president who will bring creative vision, financial acumen, a collaborative management style, and a keen understanding of the unique place that MMC has in rural southern Middle Tennessee as a “college of opportunity.” As the only baccalaureate college in this 13-county region, it is important that MMC strives for a heightened level of service to and visibility in its home region and beyond. MMC is located 70 miles south of Nashville and 40 miles north of Huntsville, Alabama.
MMC serves over 1,000 students, having grown rapidly from its two-year status over a decade ago. Recognized today as an accomplished, four-year liberal-arts centered college, Martin Methodist serves a diverse student population including traditional and non-traditional students, graduate students, and students working toward specific certifications. With an average class size of 20 and a 16:1 faculty to student ratio, MMC students receive an intensely personal and transformative learning experience.
A new president’s leadership qualities will be met with an agenda that includes opportunities to refresh a current strategic plan at its mid-point, strengthen the college’s financial sustainability, enhance a revenue base that is largely tuition dependent, engage a capital campaign still in its silent phase, and underscore the value of MMC’s church/college relationship. While candidates’ understanding of higher education is crucial, Martin recognizes that there are many pathways to the successful presidency and will welcome interest from outside the academy.
Prior to making application, prospective candidates are encouraged to learn more about the specific attributes desired in Martin Methodist’s next president and the details of the application process by reviewing the Presidential Search Profile at http://www.martinmethodist.edu/about/sm_files/MMC%20President%20Search%202016F.pdf. Candidates are requested to submit materials by noon on Monday, January 9, 2017, for most favorable consideration. All inquiries will be received in full confidence by:
