Our Connection at Work

When thunderstorms with lightning and high winds came through Spring Hill, TN on Wednesday night, June 19th, huge trees fell on Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and their building next door, the Wesley Outreach Center.

The first call that Pastor Deborah Owens made was to the insurance company, the second call was to District Superintendent Allen Black who reminded her of the disaster recovery teams throughout our connection.  Due to the tenuous nature of the trees, the small congregation at Wesley Chapel did not have worship service the following Sunday.

Fast forward to Saturday, June 29th.  The Early Response Team from St. Mark UMC in Murfreesboro (Paul Givens, Coordinator) along with members of the team from Cookeville (Kenneth Hunter, Coordinator) only took a couple of hours to dispatch the huge damaged trees on the property.  They also removed a fallen tree on the property of the church’s next door neighbor.  Pastor Owens said, “This is truly our United Methodist connection at work! We are so thankful for these servants of God who came to help us during this time.”
