Health Care: An Open Letter

Grace and Peace to you.

We, the undersigned members of a Candidacy Group in the Tennessee Conference United Methodist Church want to share with you what God has laid in our hearts. Many brothers and sisters in our churches, families and communities need our help to keep or get accessible and affordable health care insurance. We write this letter to ask for your support for those who are in danger of losing their health care.

Our call, as Christians, is to help our brothers and sisters – at all times. Your presence is needed in this arena to speak for those who have no voice. Scripture tell us in many places how we should act in these cases. “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” – Philippians 2:4

We would like to invite you to be in conversation with our Senators Alexander and Corker. The most effective way to have our Senators hear your concerns is to hand write postcards, letters, make calls and schedule appointments with the Senators or their staff. Urge Senators Alexander and Corker to reject the American Health Care Act that passed the House of Representatives. Instead ask them to increase access to affordable, high-quality and financially responsible health care. Medicaid must remain intact.

You can call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected with your congressperson’s and our Senator’s office.  You can find your member of Congress here  and our Senator here  to contact their local office. Thank you.

Shalom,

Corrie Alexander, Rebecca Dickson, Chris Haynes, Bruce Krapf, Moses Kumar, Deb Smith, and Tim Wilt
