During the third day of the special session of General Conference, the Legislative Committee (all 864 lay and clergy delegates) voted on whether or not petitions submitted to the General Conference will go forward to the Tuesday plenary session for a final vote.

Amendments and arguments before and against various petitions were heard throughout the day. The three plans proposed by the Commission on a Way Forward were considered. Only the Traditional Plan was approved to move forward for a final vote.

Two additional petitions that gained approval to move forward for a vote regard how churches could exit the denomination and, with some restrictions, retain their property.

The One Church Plan, which had been endorsed by the Council of Bishops, was rejected by a narrow 50 vote margin. Also, the third proposed plan, the Connectional Conference Plan, will not move forward. An additional plan submitted by a caucus group, the Simple Plan, was brought up for a vote but did not pass.

It is possible for failed petitions to resurface for a vote during the plenary as minority reports.

Tuesday is the final day of this special session of General Conference. There is a required adjournment time of 6:30 p.m. CT on February 26.
