Tennessee and Western Kentucky

After recent storms, Robert Craig, our Disaster Response Coordinator, talked with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency to assess damage state-wide.  It seems that our Conferences were fortunate.  However, there may be small communities in some locations that were overwhelmed and need assistance for cleanup and/or repair.  Please contact Robert if you have been made aware of damage:

Neighboring conferences have been more negatively impacted.  If other Disaster Response Coordinators request assistance, that will be communicated to churches and Early Response Team leaders.  Meanwhile, if you are led to assist survivors of the recent storms please consider donating to the UMCOR Advance #901670.

Puerto Rico

We also need to be in prayer for our sisters and brothers in Puerto Rico as they experience continued earthquakes and tremors.  The relief and recovery efforts in response to Hurricane Maria have been temporarily paused to ensure volunteer and staff safety on the island.

This report from the United Methodist News Service gives a good update on the situation.

We encourage churches to donate to the Puerto Rico recovery efforts.

If you would like to become more involved in the Disaster Response Ministry in the Tennessee Conference, please contact Robert Craig at DisasterResponse@tnumc.org.
