Disaster Response for Southeast Storms – How You Can Help | January 2017

Home | News | Disaster Response and Recovery | Disaster Response for Southeast Storms – How You Can Help | January 2017

We ask that you be in prayer for those in the Southeast who have experienced the deadly tornadoes and severe storms that tore through parts of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Texas January 21-23, 2017.

The Weather Channel reports that at least 20 deaths are being blamed on the severe weather across the Deep South and Gulf Coast. From the morning of January 21st through January 23rd, at least 29 tornadoes were confirmed.

“At this time the only request for volunteer assistance is from the Mississippi Conference and that is for trained Early Response Teams who are self-sustainable. The Tennessee Conference has currently deployed one team,” said Overstreet. “We will share additional needs as they are communicated to us. Please do not self-deploy, we know our hearts break for those who are hurting, but sometimes our helping can hurt.”

How you can help:

Please join us in prayer:

Almighty God, merciful Father, keep all of us and all who have been affected by natural disasters from despair and do not let our faith be destroyed by the hopelessness we encounter. Sustain and comfort us. Direct all our efforts to help our neighbors in need, console the bereaved, and protect the helpless. Deliver any who are still in danger and bring hope and healing that we may find relief and restoration. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
