FLSA Status: Exempt
Full-time/Part-time: 20 -30 hours

SUMMARY
The Director of Student Ministries is responsible for overseeing the spiritual formation of students at Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Student ministries is defined as children and youth, from pre-school age through high school. A successful Director Student Ministries at Hillcrest United Methodist Church is organized, relatable and vested in designing diverse worship experiences so children and youth can grow in their faith, confirm their hope in Christ, and be perfected in love with God and neighbor.

STUDENT MINITIRES: RELATIONSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY
The Director of Student Ministries is accountable to the Senior Pastor in matters pertaining to his/her responsibilities at Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Job performance, salary, and benefits are reviewed annually by the Staff Parish Relations Committee in consultation with the Senior Pastor.

WEEKLY & ONGOING MINISTRY SUPPORT:
The Director of Student Ministries will be supported by both staff and lay leaders of the Hillcrest UMC. The Student Ministries of the Church shall be supported by the HUMC Student Ministry Council.

MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for welcoming and including children and youth in the ministry life
of the church and for their spiritual formation. Responsible for nurturing
community and strengthening relationships among the children, youth, and
adults. This can be done by hosting at least one weekly discipleship
opportunity using technology such as zoom, or in-person gathering, for the
children, and separately for the youth.

Leadership & Worship
o Collaborate with the Pastor to plan and lead worship for the week as needed
o Ensure Safe Sanctuary Policies are followed with regard to Student Ministries
o Oversee curriculum selection, teacher recruitment, training and evaluation
o Consistently evaluate the programs being offered to our children and youth.
o Serve as Liaison with HUMC Missions Partners that serve children in our neighborhood.
o Recruit and empower laypeople to be involved in student ministries
o Create and oversee Student Ministry annual calendar
o Develop and oversee a yearly budget for student ministries
o Coordinate seasonal events such as Easter Egg Hunt, VBS, Trunk or Treat and as needed.
• Supervise:
o Ensure that the Sunday’s Nursery Care Service providers follow through on their contract.
o Ensure our Student Ministry lay leaders are empowered and resourced to do their work.

Communicate:
o Send a weekly email to the parents of children & youth that covers all the pertinent information and resources needed for each week’s gathering
o Send a weekly email to all Ministry area volunteers and inform them what is happening and what is expected of them
o Provide Operations Manager with information that needs to be included in the daily email, website and other platforms in the church.

Recruit:
o Student Ministry volunteers to lead — Sunday School, Teach Children’s Church, Provide Child
Care, Participate in events.
o qualified lay leaders to whom you can delegate and entrust ministry responsibilities

Schedule:
o Ministry volunteers in line with the needs of the ministry area for student ministries and
Nursery staffing
o In consultation with Operations Manager reserve space that is shared by other groups, both inside and outside the church
