Rev. Chip HunterBishop William T. McAlilly of the Nashville Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church announced today his intention to appoint Rev. Chip Hunter as the District Superintendent of the Stones River District in the Tennessee Conference. Hunter will assume the new role beginning in June of 2018 with the setting of the new appointments at the 2018 Tennessee Annual Conference.

Rev. Hunter has served as the senior pastor of Columbia First United Methodist Church since 2014. A graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity), he began his ministry in a student appointment at Rowesville and Normandy UMCs and was ordained an Elder in the Tennessee Conference in June of 2000.

Prior to his current appointment, Hunter served as associate pastor at Murfreesboro First UMC, and as senior pastor of both Hohenwald First UMC and Epworth UMC.

In addition, Chip currently serves on the Connectional Ministries Restructuring Team and has previously served as a member of the district board of ordained ministry, and as the chair of the Conference Council on Connectional Ministries

Rev. Hunter is married to Debbie who teaches theater at Zion Christian Academy. They have two children, a son, Trent, who is a freshman in high school, and daughter, Miranda, who is a senior in high school. Chip enjoys jazz, comedy, and watching and playing hockey in his free time.

The new senior pastor at Columbia First United Methodist Church has not been named. The bishop and cabinet will discern the best possible missional appointments for all churches in the Tennessee Conference during the appointive cabinet sessions which are currently in process. Projected appointments will be announced next week and the appointments will be finalized during the 2018 Tennessee Annual Conference.

H.G. StovallBishop McAlilly would also like to announce the addition of H.G. Stovall to the Episcopal Office staff in the role of Executive Office Administrator. When asked about joining the staff, Stovall said he is looking forward to “rolling up [his] sleeves and seeing what God has in store for us.”

H.G. is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a B.S. in Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration.

Most recently he served as Director of Conference Services & Special Events at Scarritt Bennett Center. In this capacity, he was responsible for all aspects of hospitality including sales, food services, and IT. H.G. also brings experience from previous roles as Assistant Director of Conference Services at Vanderbilt University, General Liability Specialist at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, and in registration and collections for HCA/Tri-Star Healthcare.

H.G. is a member of Hickory Bend UMC, where he serves on the Finance and Pastor-Parish Relations committees. In addition, he also volunteers with the Tennessee Equality Project for which he serves as Treasurer of the board of directors. In his free time, he can be found on the greenway, in his yard, or at a demolition derby.
