Human Resource Professional & Office Assistant / Henderson Settlement

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Responsible for Payroll preparation, Employee Benefits and Assisting Bookkeeper and other Office Personnel, as needed.

The Human Resource Professional shall:

  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll, including verifying time cards, direct deposit and related transactions/ journal entries
  • Manage employee benefits, including vacation and sick accruals, insurance and pension
  • Maintain employee files and update annual Employee Information Sheets
  • Meet with employees concerning hiring, termination, counseling and benefit updates
  • Coordinate benefit events, such as annual Insurance Sign-Ups
  • Maintain job descriptions and job postings
  • Manage annual performance evaluations
  • Manage employee-funded Sunshine Fund
  • Maintain Human Resource Procedures Manual, recommending changes as needed
  • Attend Human Resource Training events and perform research on employee issues
  • Perform accounting procedures, such as posting of deposits, accounts receivable and billing of campus rent
  • Assist VIM with monthly inter-department mileage spreadsheets on Excel
  • Work with VIM personnel to maintain the VIM Reconciliation to General Ledger on Excel
  • Maintain vehicle and insurance files, including communication with insurance company
  • Assist Bookkeeper as needed, including cross-training and office supply ordering/inventory
  • Work with Board of Directors in planning of annual Staff Appreciation Dinner (particularly employee plaques)
  • Maintain utmost confidentiality of all personnel and financial matters
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance & Administration and the Executive Director


  • Commitment to God in Christ and a working understanding of the ministries of the United Methodist Church
  • Spiritual maturity and comfort with the language and essentials of the Christian faith
  • Willingness to work with the Settlement’s mission and vision and to honor United Methodist theology, social principles and practice
    • Strong leader who is trustworthy and willing to serve as a mentor
    • Strategic thinker with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and a strong operational focus
    • Well-organized, self-directed individual with a heart for outreach missions and the community
    • Ability to demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and to prioritize workload
    • Ability to produce clearly written documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office

Experience and Education:

  • Associates degree in business-related field preferred
  • Two or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
