The Village Nashville | Day of Service

July 29, 2019

500 people of all ages came together on July 28, to serve their south Nashville neighbors during Sent Sunday, hosted by The Village Church.

Volunteers completed 32 projects, worth $30,000, in 10 locations throughout Cane Ridge, Lenox Village, Antioch, south Nashville, and Nolensville:

  • 6 local schools received painting, construction, cleaning, decorating and landscaping work
  • 50,000 meals were packed and donated through Meals of Hope to Second Harvest Food Bank and Nolensville Food Pantry
  • 12 local schools received materials and supplies to support teachers and students
  • 1,000 teacher appreciation gifts were created to say thank you and to remind area teachers that they are loved
  • 150+ bags were assembled for students of Norman Binkley Elementary, Shayne Elementary, and Oliver Middle so they can have access to food over upcoming weekends
  • 100 blessing bags were made for distribution to members of the local homeless population
  •  40 birthday boxes were assembled for distribution through food pantries so that everyone can celebrate a birthday with a cake and party

There was no cost to attend Sent Sunday, and many families were able to volunteer together, as many projects were safe for children to complete. Further information is available at TheVillageNashville.com/DayOfService.

The Village is a three-year-old church congregation continuously dedicated to community service. The annual Sent Sunday event began in 2015, with nearly 40 people completing just one project. The effort has grown exponentially as the church has taken root.
