Film Produced about Work of UMC in East Congo Wins Award

The film “A Plea to My Father” has won a Silver Remi award at the WorldFest International Independent Film Festival!

“A Plea to My Father” was produced to amplify the United Methodist Church of East Congo’s voice as they stand with women who have been raped. It has been versioned now in nine languages, and broadcast on television in East Congo – reaching at least half a million viewers in three media markets.

It has been shared through WhatsApp to reach clergy and laity in East Congo, Uganda, Central Africa Republic, and Uganda. It has also been used on radio through a program to engage the public on the issue of stigma. The local church is responding locally through both compassion and justice-seeking measures.

Special thanks to:

Bishop McAlilly and Bishop Unda for making the work with women of East Congo priority; Judith Yanga, Firdaus Kharas and WiseHeart Foundation for bringing this story to life; to United Methodist Women for aiding in the broadcast and expansion of resources in the “Women Arise” campaign; Rev. Dr. Betty Kazadi Musau, Ken Kalungi, Doris Adamu, Deborah Adewola, and Anna Warren – our international team of communication specialists, and all of you who support Harper Hill Global.
