115:  EAST END CHILDREN’S PROGRAM—Lawrenceburg

The East End United Methodist Church After School Program is an ecumenical ministry that reaches out to children and youth whose parents often have challenging economic financial situations.  Every Tuesday afternoon during the school year, children come to experience a safe place with fun peer interaction and a positive Christian message, as well as a substantial snack provided by local churches that typically looks more like a meal.  Also, on a regular basis, we strive to meet the physical needs of the children who attend the After School Program whether it be through personal care items, school supplies or food boxes.  On each child’s birthday, he or she is also given a full sized birthday cake from a local bakery and candles to take home for a family celebration.  At Christmas time, the children are also presented with a small gift consisting of an age-appropriate toy and some type of clothing.  The gift also consists of gift coupons supplied by local fast food restaurants.

116:  STRENGTH FOR THE JOURNEY

This respite camp for adults living with HIV/AIDS provides a supportive environment for spiritual, emotional, and physical renewal.  Sponsored by the TN Conference and staffed/supported by several local churches, this camp provides an experience for persons who otherwise might not have an opportunity to “get away.”

Feed America First was chartered in June 2000 with the mission “to provide food to those who feed the hungry”. The purpose of FAF is to seek and collect large-scale donations of food from manufacturers, distributors, growers, and other charities, and to distribute that food _at no charge_ to the numerous small hunger relief ministries in poor communities in this region who are already engaged in hunger relief.

Through 2009 Feed America First has distributed approximately 20 million pounds of food, serving almost 150 small charities each month in the Tennessee Conference area. For each dollar donated FAF has historically been able to provide enough food for 12-15 meals.
