Hunger Offerings
THE NEW PLAN FOR THE TENNESSEE ANNUAL CONFERENCE HUNGER OFFERINGS
CHANGING THE FACE OF HUNGER AT HOME AND AROUND THE WORLD
As approved by the Mission and Mercy Committee, your church is encouraged to collect three Hunger Offerings yearly.
Each offering has a specific purpose and designation.
Lent—World Hunger Focus
Hunger Offerings will be collected for the UMCOR World Hunger Poverty
Advance Special # 982920. This project focuses on global immediate hunger/
famine needs and works with communities to become self-sustaining (Heifer
Project, teaching agriculture, etc.).
June—Hunger Awareness Day
Churches are encourage to support their local hunger ministries through food
drives, offerings and volunteering.
November—District Focus
All contributions to the Hunger Offering will be used within the District to
support projects the District Hunger Committee endorses.
For the remainder of 2009, the Mission and Mercy Committee requests that
churches collect a Hunger Offering in November as described above and offer
congregants the opportunity to designate a gift to the UMCOR World Hunger/
Poverty
