General Conference Delegation

The 2012 General (worldwide) Conference will meet April 24 – May 4, 2012 in Tampa, FL to consider petitions to create or modify church law. The 2011 TN Annual Conference elected 24 delegates and alternates to the General Conference. The eight on this page are the primary voting delegates to General Conference, the 16 on the Jurisdictional Conference page are alternates to General Conference.

Rev. Harriet Bryan | serves as the pastor of Salem in Clarksville. She earned a B.A. from the University of Mississippi, an M.Div. from Duke University, and a diploma in divinity from the University of Saint Andrews, Scotland. Harriet currently chairs the Conference Board of Pensions and serves as co-chair of the Clarksville District Committee on Ministry. In addition, she serves on the national board of the Society of Saint Andrew (hunger relief ministry), the Duke Divinity National Alumni Council, and as a facilitator for the Institute for Clergy Excellence. Rev. Stephen Handy | serves as the Pastor at McKendree United Methodist Church in downtown Nashville. Stephen earned a B.A. from Dillard University; M.B.A. from Tennessee State University; and a M.Div from Vanderbilt Divinity School. On the Conference level, Stephen chairs the Comprehensive African American Strategic Team (CAAST) and serves on the Camping and Retreat, Advocacy and New Church Development Committees. Rev. Max Mayo | serves as Senior Pastor of the Cookeville First United Methodist Church in Cookeville, TN. He is a graduate of the Candler School of Theology at Emory University (1997). Max is married to Stephanie and has two children; Justin and Maddie. Previous appointments include: 1990 Haynes Chapel/Cedar Grove, 1994 Newborn (N. Georgia), 1997 Westview, 2002 Fairfield Glade, 2008 Cookeville. |

Dr. A. Lynn Hill | serves as senior Pastor of Franklin 1st UMC. He earned an A.S. from Aquinas College, B.A. from The University of Tennessee, M.Div. and D. Min. from Vanderbilt University. Lynn currently serves on the Council on Finance & Administration with the TN Conference and on the General Council on Finance & Administration of the UMC. Mr. James R. Allen | is employed as the Tennessee Conference’s Treasurer. He was formerly General Counsel at GCFA, and before that was a lawyer in private practice and a banker in South Carolina. Jim is a graduate of Clemson University (B.S., with Honors) and the University of South Carolina (J.D.). He is a native of North Carolina where he was baptized in a Methodist Church as an infant, and has been an active Methodist ever since. He and his wife Deb live in Nashville where they are members of Blakemore UMC. They have been blessed with five daughters and 4 grands. | Email Jim |

Mr. C. Don Ladd | is a life long Methodist and retired financial services executive. He is past chairperson Southeastern Jurisdiction (SEJ) Lay Speaking Ministries. He currently serves on the SEJ Episcopacy Committee. He has served the Tennessee Conference in various leadership positions and has been honored with the Harry Denman and Francis Asbury Awards. Mrs. Opal Ransom | is employed by the State of Tennessee as a Quality Assurance Survey. She has worked and served in the UM Church in many capacities, including with the United Methodist Women. Currently Opal serves as the chair of the Conference Council Office of Connectional Ministries and chair of the Personnel Committee of the CCOCM. She is a member of Gordon Memorial UMC, where she serves as Lay Leader and Lay Leader to the TN Annual Conference. She is married to Joseph Ransom - they have two children and two grandchildren. Ms. Cornelia (Connie) Clark | currently serves as Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. She received her B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University, her M.A.T. degree from Harvard University, and her J.D. Degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law. She serves on the Board of Directors of the United Methodist Publishing House. She is a lifelong active member at Franklin First United Methodist Church, where she currently serves as Chair of the Staff Parish Relations Committee. | Email Connie |
