Tennessee Conference 23 year Denman Award recognition (from TNUMConnects 7/28/11)

found_evang.pngThe Foundation for Evangelism recognizes the Tennessee Annual Conference for 23 consecutive years of partnering with the Foundation by presenting the prestigious Harry Denman Evangelism Award. In those 23 years, 49 recipients have been recognized in the Tennessee Conference. The multiplying impact of their personal ministry has helped countless others experience God’s transforming love through Jesus Christ.

The award is named for the late Dr. Harry Denman, distinguished lay evangelist and founder of The Foundation for Evangelism.  Recipients, selected by the conference, are clergy, laity and youth who faithfully practice the Great Commission by making disciples of Jesus Christ, thus carrying on the evangelistic spirit of Dr. Harry Denman. Rev. Allen Black, who served for several years as Chairperson of the award selection committee for the Tennessee Conference, is a member of the Board of Trustees of The Foundation for Evangelism.

The Foundation for Evangelism is an affiliate of the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church. Our passion is to help others experience God's transforming love through Jesus Christ. Our focus is to provide resources for the development of leaders with a passion for evangelism who will have a multiplying impact on The United Methodist Church.

TN UMC is about 'Changing the World' (excerpt from The Connector, April 2011)

'Changing the World' can result from 'Changing Somebody's World' which comes from 'Being the Change' Jesus begins in all of us!

ctw.jpgNashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church will join United Methodists worldwide to Change the World, a church-wide event on May 14-15 (and on April 16 – see below) that prompts members to join with others in the community to make a difference locally and globally. All churches in the Conference are invited to participate by organizing an event in your community, rallying with other churches and working together on a project, or leading District-wide efforts and “being the change.”

“It really doesn’t matter how it’s done,” says Communications Coordinator Kevin Sparkman, “the United Methodist Church, in conjunction with Rethink Church and United Methodist Communications, have provided a plethora of resources - now it’s up to us to reignite the fire Jesus has put into all of our hearts and go forth.”

Over the next few weeks the TN UMC Office of Communications will be informing the Conference where various projects will be taking place and how to be involved through its own spin on the national campaign through "Change Somebody's World." On April 16, the TN UMC Young People’s Ministry will be taking part in several projects in conjunction with the national Change the World campaign with “Be The Change Day 2011.” That evening, everyone involved in service projects along with the general public are invited to a special service and concert at Hermitage UMC (contact Brad Fiscus: bfiscus@tnumc.org, 615.329.1177).

The global Change the World event was created as part of The United Methodist Church’s Rethink Church campaign, which seeks to utilize outreach events that embrace the concept of outward-bound church to make a positive difference in the world beyond the church doors. The concept for Change the World originated with the Rev. Mike Slaughter, lead pastor at Ginghamsburg Church in Tipp City, Ohio, who authored a book by the same name that aligns with the vision of Rethink Church.
